I have to admit that Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love Christmas! I guess the tradition of Christmas holds a special place in my heart and memories. When I was a child, my parents tried to make Christmas an enjoyable and memorable day for everyone. My mother would prepare a big Christmas meal, and family and friends would gather together and enjoy all of the festivities.
For me, the anticipation of Christmas day was a great feeling. I enjoyed all of the traditions leading up to Christmas day. When I was a kid, my family had an artificial tree, and when early December hit, we would pull out the tree and begin to decorate it. When I had my kids, our tradition was similar, but instead of an artificial tree, my family would go to a Christmas tree lot and pick out the best-looking live Christmas tree and decorate it.
Before cable TV, when I was a child, we only had roughly 4 or 5 channels and they were filled with the latest toy commercials. I can recall making my Christmas list and adding every toy I saw to my list.
Along came cable, as well as my three kids. But nothing changed in the fact that when my kids were younger, their Christmas list included every toy they saw on 100+ channels.
Adding to the buildup and excitement of Christmas were the Christmas specials on TV.
I never outgrew the excitement and anticipation of Christmas, especially watching Christmas shows on TV. Even though my kids are now adults, we still keep the tradition of watching Christmas shows together. We look forward to it.
